Through architectural vestiges and artifacts, we know that the cross is a pre-Christian symbol present in many ancient cultures from regions such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, Greece, Central America, and Africa. Before being introduced into monotheistic religion as a symbol of suffering and redemption for all the “sins of the world,” the Greek cross — with its symmetrical structure of four arms — already represented the cosmic balance between heaven and earth.


In the exhibition “Perspective of Healing”, artist Federico Roldán Vukonich uses the form of the Greek cross to express a gesture of desecration: he presents a new series of sculptures that challenge the viewer’s perception by contrasting the delicacy of cardboard with the rigid appearance of oxidized metal. The iron oxide gives the surface a reddish hue that emphasizes the continuous transformation of matter and the human experience of reconnecting with instinct/nature. These...More expand_more
