This cabinet exhibition of the painter Pepa Caballero (Granada, 1943–Málaga, 2012) completes the retrospective show that was inaugurated last December at the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo in Seville—curated by Isabel Garnelo and Carmen Cortés—under the title Constelaciones abstractas. While the CAAC focuses on the work the painter produced from the 1980s onward, at a time when Caballero was already a mature artist of incomparable formal elegance, the Isabel Hurley gallery brings together those lesser-known pieces by the Granadan painter, some of them scarcely studied. These are paintings in which Pepa Caballero moves from the figuration that characterized her training during the 1960s toward the abstraction of the 1970s.
