Speculative fiction – when projecting into the future- always raises very current issues. The elements of nature that appear in Antonio Vidal’s large format paintings announce a catastrophe. Fires, floods and hurricanes are intermingled with a vast visual repertoire that incorporates biblical scenes, cave paintings, golemic characters, pictorial references and something that has been announced for a long time but has not yet happened.

These works do not propose a punctual event, a unique and spectacular Apocalypse. Anticipated futures are liminal stories that are activated individually and that establish in each painting, different points of inflection. There is a polysemy that writes micro-stories after our current dystopia. These future vestiges establish a connection between history and the future that awaits us, as if the past contained in it, a secret index for our redemption.

– Papus Von Saenger
