Coumba Samba works in sculpture, installation, music and performance. Her work reflects the circulation of objects, material and ideology through which she examines how power is inscribed in knowledge, institutions, signs and colours by interrogating their circulation and preservation on the basis of globalised infrastructures.
Samba has developed a new, expansive installation for Lumiar Cité, which simultaneously links and scrutinises the rigid geometry and opaque movement patterns of global trade. Using modular architecture, the artist interconnects the history of abstract painting and the modernist grid with global supply chains and their increasingly expanding imprint on lived experiences.
