MANUAL ARTS is pleased to present an installation of works by Lawrence Weiner featuring sculptures, drawing, and audio.
8484 Wilshire Blvd, the famed Hustler HQ building and the former offices of its founder, Larry Flynt, places artist Lawrence Weiner’s installation of his works, CONFINED WITHIN THE LINES and WRENCHED FREE, at Manual Arts within the context of Flynt’s 1989 Supreme Court win for protection under the 1st Amendment of the Constitution. The show includes his lyrics performed a Capella by the Persuasions - BIG BANG/NEW FLORA (RED), playing in the background: “Row row row your boat, as the shit flows gently down the stream. Heavy metals, Valium, Lead and other toys. Row, row, row your boat. What we don’t flush away, will blow away another day. Big bang. Change of state. Change the state. Change the value. Row, row, row your boat. Shit flows to the surface…Captain of the ship…”
