Michael Benevento is pleased to present Fred Lonidier and his original version of Vacation Village Trade Show from 1972 in which he documents photographic sessions featuring models posing in the Mission Bay public gardens, arranged for amateur photographers with an entrance fee of $20. This, together with the advertising of the time, highlighted the predominance of men in advertisements for camera and photographic lens manufacturers. Vacation Village Trade Show made its debut in 1972 at the University of California, San Diego, as a collaborative effort involving two faculty members and students; Steve Buck, Louise Kirtland, Fred Lonidier, Allan Sekula, Phil Steinmetz, Barbara Greenlee, and Ruth Krimmel. This is Lonidier’s fourth solo exhibition at the gallery. Below is a statement from the artist.
