Press Release

The release by Concordia University Press of Ian Carr-Harris’s anthology of writings titled Tracings: Writing Art, 1975-2020 opens the door onto a practice that can be understood through the following formula:

Trace. The word is both noun and verb. A noun is stable, it constructs an edifice, an object, a memory and a history. A verb is active, it initiates a dilemma of choice, the dilemma of obligation and commitment. The word itself is mute – both noun and verb. It is our choice to decide, to follow the paths that choice presents.

Time. The word is both noun and verb. A noun, it echoes over time, over history, over the passage of all possible choice. A verb, it imposes the limitations of our choices. Trace and Time. It's all we have.
