Towards Gallery is pleased to announce Autobahn, Clémence de La Tour du Pin’s first solo presentation in Canada.
This exhibition presents a new collage on linen together with wall-based assemblages. At the entrance, a stretched, low-resolution image depicts an upside-down photograph of a wool winter coat with hints of flash reflections, continuing a series using found online memorabilia. On the walls, the square oil-painted panels incorporate umbrella ribs and thumbtacks. The surface is built up over time with aggregated layers of dark wax and oil; beneath this, silk and threads emerge like neural pathways. The pushpins seem to mark points of trajectory and directional flow. Autobahn reflects on the perspectival qualities of movement and light. The notion of the blind spot—or l’angle mort in French, meaning “death angle” serves as a leitmotif to frame the relationship between a viewer’s subjective gaze and an object.
