TROTOAR is pleased to present ‘Mara & Lara’, an exhibition of new paintings by Marko Zeman, curated by Martina Marić Rodrigues. In his first exhibition with the gallery, the artist explores his fascination with the shapes, colors and textures, frequently embracing the principle of randomness. Zeman’s monumental paintings are distinguished by an unconstrained painterly style that challenges the ordinary aesthetic norms. He captures everyday motifs and fictional figures, transforming them into twisted two-dimensional scenes, infused with humor.
All of a sudden, a woman’s face appears on the screen. She takes over the scene. She takes me over. Time stands still, the space melts away as we look into each other’s eyes. Silence… An almost unbearable sense of anticipation. A small, but perceptible jolt. As if cut with a knife, lips spread into a smile.
