As part of La Nit de l’Art, Tube Gallery presents Cynic’s Bedtime, the first solo exhibition by Jack Burton (Barry, South Wales, 1988) at the gallery.
The sixteen photographs included in the show form an allegorical landscape of insomnia: coffee cups, books, masks, neon lights… Some images are meticulously staged, while others allow for improvisation, as if thought itself had seeped into them.
In this context, dreaming cynically is not about giving up, but about sharing the wakefulness of thought with others. The exhibition opens a collective space of doubt, sleeplessness, and imagination, inviting us to navigate the fragments of a mind that shuns easy answers. In its blend of the intimate and the theatrical, Cynic’s Bedtime does not depict insomnia as an individual experience, but as that which keeps us awake as a society.
