The spatial installation Bonança by Paulo Wirz begins in the stairwell of the exhibition space ZQM in Berlin. Mirrors mounted on the steps create an illusory space. The mental images this evokes continue one floor up. Viewed through the corridor toward the entrance of the exhibition room, the differing blue surfaces of the floor, ceiling, and walls appear like an immaterial field of color painting. The blue light comes from tinted windows. The panes, painted with glass color, face the inner courtyard. There is no artificial lighting. The atmosphere in the space and the mirror effects on the water-covered floor arise solely from the natural light, which changes depending on the time of day or dusk. In one corner lies a heap of dishes, cutlery, necklaces, and weeds. The installation has an eerie quality and seems dedicated to something hidden, unconscious, or repressed.
