Germán Bel, professionally known as Fasim, is a pioneering Spanish contemporary artist born in Barcelona in 1972. He is recognised as one of the early figures in the development of urban art and graffiti in Spain, active in the art scene since the 1980s when the movement was still emerging and largely marginalized by mainstream art institutions.
Bel began his artistic journey in the streets of Barcelona and quickly connected with influential figures in the global graffiti scene. In 1989, he met American artist Futura 2000 during an exhibition at the Arcs&Cracs gallery in Barcelona, a formative experience that introduced him to artistic creation on canvas and helped bridge the gap between street practice and gallery-based art. Shortly after, in 1992, he travelled to Paris to spend time at the studio of JonOne and the BadBC crew at the Hôpital éphémère, where he expanded his practice and observed how urban art was beginning to enter mainstream…
