Biography
Juliana Irene Smith is a California-born, half Iranian artist, mother, and activist who has been living and working in Finland for nearly a decade. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Photography from Parsons School of Design in New York and a Master’s degree in Public Art from HSLU in Switzerland. After leaving New York in 2003, she lived and worked in South Africa, Palestine, and Switzerland—experiences that continue to shape her artistic practice.
Recent exhibitions include Summer Rain, a group exhibition curated by Eeva Holkeri at the Helsinki Art Hall; Scaredy Cat Boo!, a solo exhibition at Photographic Centre Peri in Turku; and Saggy Wednesday, a solo presentation at Verkligheten Gallery in Umeå. In October 2025, Smith published her first book, GOOD FEELINGS EVERY DAY, with Utu Press; the launch took place at Photographic Gallery Hippolyte in Helsinki.
