Biography
Karoline Schneider is a Sorbian visual artist who lives and works in Leipzig.
She studied book art/graphic design and painting/graphics at the HGB Leipzig, as well as sculpture at the Accademia delle Belle Arti di Napoli. At the Bauhaus University Weimar, she is pursuing a practice-based doctoral degree on the Indo-Pacific cowrie shells found on the shell harnesses of the Sorbian Catholic Easter riders in Upper Lusatia, examining them from feminist, postcolonial, and NatureCulture perspectives. Her work explores how traditions can be reinterpreted and transformed through mutual respect and contemporary artistic practice. She has also worked in various venues on issues of discrimination, colonialism, and institutional critique, including the Saxon Ethnographic Collections, the German Hygiene Museum in Dresden, and the HGB Leipzig.
