Biography
Katherine Lodge is an English visual artist whose work explores the space between abstraction, texture, and gesture. Her practice is rooted in an intuitive layering of form, using bold colour, collage, and rhythmic mark-making.
Katherine began painting in 2020, following a successful career in illustration and design. The shift came during the COVID-19 pandemic, a period that prompted her to explore more instinctive and tactile forms of expression. Her paintings often oscillate between chaos and control, drawing on her background in printmaking and her deep engagement with visual storytelling.
She studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where she was mentored by David Sandlin and first explored silkscreen and lithography. An exchange at the Art Institute of Chicago allowed her to work with Jim Nutt, an experience that continues to inform her use of flattened space and figurative abstraction. She later earned her MA in Illustration from the Royal College of Art in London.
