Museum guard, I found myself watching over a parquet floor from the agency les ready-made appartiennent à tout le monde (“ready-mades belong to everyone”). My task was to prevent people from stepping on the piece.
What can one actually touch in a museum?
I liked guarding that element of construction and domestic decoration—something familiar, yet forbidden to tread on. What kind of care and emotion do we have toward the objects around us? What relationships do we maintain with our trinkets, our decorative items, our interiors painted or wallpapered, covered with carpet, tile, curtains, and cushions? The art that surrounds us.
I like to build my sculptures and installations as familiar, intimate spaces—a bedroom or living room conducive to daydreaming.
