Biography
Roger Muñoz Rivas (b. 1990, Costa Rica) is a visual artist based in Mexico City and represented by General Expenses. His multidisciplinary practice spans painting, sculpture, installation, video, and performance, often incorporating his drag persona Lic. Sniffany Garnier Odio as a fictional and performative extension of his artistic research. Drawing from horror cinema, psychoanalysis, mythology, and popular culture, his work explores what he describes as a “tropical gothic”: a cannibalistic appropriation of European gothic imaginaries reconfigured through Latin American landscapes, violence, and cultural memory. Through grotesque bodies, domestic objects, and hybrid monstrous figures, Muñoz Rivas constructs theatrical environments where sexuality, power structures, and family dynamics collapse into dark humor and symbolic cruelty.
Muñoz Rivas studied Fine Arts at the University of Costa Rica and was a member of the SOMA educational program in Mexico City. His work has been presented…
