Biography
Winju (they/them, b. 1997, Turkey) is a Brussels-based transdisciplinary artist working across sculpture, performance, sound and electronic systems. Trained in modeling, welding and metalwork, they studied sculpture at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (Istanbul) before earning both a BA and MA in Sculpture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. Their work merges black metal aesthetics, medical iconography and custom mechatronics to produce sculptural environments where care becomes mechanical, control becomes performative, and violence becomes ornamental.
Combining raw materials, hacked medical devices and narrative systems, Winju builds unstable architectures that interrogate bodies, survival, systems of power and soft collapse. Their current cycles include AIGÜ, True Belgian Black Steel and KTHXBAI BULLIES, and they regularly collaborate on hybrid performances such as Ruggine with Alice Giuliani.
