YiMiao had the pleasure of being invited to do a residency and solo show in 1B Gallery. During her time here, YiMiao sought to explore her current practice with the site, use drawing as a way to activate conversations and prompt narratives, play with the idea of 'affordable property', and test out a collision/conflation of materials.
The final presentation ‘Surface Value’ brings together a body of work which is informed by YiMiao’s research prior to residency as well as her experience onsite. It formulates a contained show which is displayed with lights on 24/7 a week (a nod to the rigorous estate agencies) and is composed with embroidery-drawing, work on paper, metalwork and text that responds to the unique window gallery space.
