Biography
Mahalia taje Giotto (CH/IT, 1992) is an artist based in Lausanne (CH) working with image, performance, and installation.
After earning a Master’s degree in Photography from ECAL in 2022, they developed a practice shaped by their transition and experience as a non-binary trans person, they seek to make visible social norms and their contradictions rather than dismantling them outright, proposing alternative representations of trans identity beyond fixed categories. Intimacy becomes a political site, where personal narratives intersect with broader structures of visibility and power.
Among their notable projects, existential boner combines photographs, collages, texts, and scans to construct an intimate and radical self-portrait. It was exhibited at the Images Vevey 2022 biennale, in a solo exhibition in Milan in 2023 and won the Swiss Design Awards in 2024. It was published as a book by ECAL and SPBH in July 2023.
