Decades after the last exhibition devoted to the maritime atmospheres long explored by the artist, the Casa del Mutilato in Genoa – Fondazione A.N.M.I.G. – presents its new production “Antonio Giuseppe Santagata. Mare forte” (“Rough Sea”) — a project that serves as the second stage in the effort to highlight the lesser-known pictorial works of one of the leading cultural figures of early twentieth-century Italy, whose name and history remain inextricably tied to the experience of war.
If last year the institution chose to explore the painter’s intense spirituality, this new exhibition centers on a deeply personal perception of the Ligurian Sea. Figures, boats, and natural disasters engage in dialogue, together expressing an indomitable narrative of the waters that surround the various towns stretching along the region’s coasts.
